BT HG612 Settings
« on: August 25, 2012, 12:14:28 PM »

Hi,

I have a BT FTTC modem (HG612) which is still locked down, I connect to this via
a PPPoE connection using PAP/Chap authentication with the user name: bthomehub@btinternet.com password:1234567890
as I understand the password can be any thing, and it works

I have another HG612 which I have unlocked which syncs OK but will not authenticate using the HG612
in router mode with PPPoE

I have included the screen shots of the Basic>ATM and WAN (the WAN shows manual dial which I have been using to test the connection)

Any comments what is wrong I would be VERY Grateful

You have EoA ticked rather than PPPoA this would be wrong for most isp's - not sure re BT but  I would try PPPoA.

Just to confirm, are you using the HG612 on an ADSL connection as a modem/router or a FTTC/VDSL2 connection in conjunction with say a HomeHub router?

I am using the HG612 as a router on a VDSL2 line, no home hub, Lan1 goes into a switch
The screen shot of the Basic>Wan shows Lan1 as Port Binding, this is incorrect
both port bindings for Lan1 and Lan2 are unchecked

Thanks Les-70, I have tried EoA and PPPoA.

Also I have tried many combinations of the settings in the ATM and WAN

Could some one Confirm that the VLAN on the WAN should be 10 or 101

As you are using it on a GEA FTTC VDSL2 service, the first thing I would recommend that you do is to press the reset button so that it reverts back to the original BT configuration.

Now follow this incantation --

Quote
Once unlocked, make sure you are plugged into the modem via LAN 2 not LAN 1
and login at http://192.168.1.1 with admin/admin as the username/password.

On the left, go to Basic > WAN
Under Port Binding untick LAN 1 and LAN 2
Connection Mode: Route
Connection Type: PPPoE
User name: Your FTTC username
Password: Your FTTC password

Click on Submit

The modem will now handle the PPPoE connection.

To have it give out IP address via DHCP, go to Basic > LAN on the left
and simply tick the Enable DHCP server box, then click on Submit.

The above notes have been stashed away in my grotto, without any record of the author.

I believe they were written by James, Technical Director of the ISP ADSL24:)
