I live right at the edge of a New Forest town in a residential area. You could say right against the forest fence.

And for interest I installed inSSIDer.

I would have thought there would be a lot of wifi traffic showing up on inSSIDer, but none ever seems evident. All that ever shows is me. So I am thinking either I live in an area, whose residents are not users of wifi connections, or I have set something up incorrectly.

Your comments please! Also from what distance would ibSSIDer pick up a network?

At a guess, it must be determined by the gain of the aerial, and the sensitivity of the receiver.

Put a 'WiFi' dongal at the focal point of an old satellite dish and then have a look around.

When walking around my house with my laptop I detect about 27 networks, with my tablet I only receive about four.
