missing tones on Talk Talk.. noise?
« on: August 24, 2012, 08:40:32 PM »

Ive arrived at my Dads and Iam checking his Talk Talk connection - he has great stats but his noise margin was 2.1db (default is 6db) indicating noise.

I have now plugged in my DG834GT and using DMT Tool can see the following tones missing, his ADSL cable is 5m long but its twisted, double shielded pair, it comes through the wall where the STB's are and im wondering if thats causing problems - the cable was also parralell with the power cable for PC - i have since moved it away but the missing tones remain, they seem almost evenly apart (most of them , which Iam sure is a clue)..

wondered if anyone could shed some light?

Gap1 474kHz-479kHz (Tone110)
Gap2 548kHz-552kHz (Tone127)
Gap3 811kHz-815kHz (Tone188)
Gap4 824kHz-828kHz (Tone191)
Gap5 1048kHz-1052kHz (Tone243)
Gap6 1255kHz-1259kHz (Tone291)
Gap7 1501kHz-1505kHz (Tone348)

It seems to be a "feature" of ADSL2+ DSLAMS

thanks c6em - i understand some are used for signalling, with BE* there were a whole bunch together - but never seen that many before...

I will monitor his noise margin now the cable is moved from the power

thanks
