ADSL - Downstream Output Power
« on: July 09, 2012, 09:23:59 PM »

I have read about some routers reporting DS Output Power as Zero, or very low values.

I have also read about Output Power fluctuating by 1dBm or so.

However, do the large fluctuations in DS Output Power in the attached 4 hour graph suggest a problem at all?
US Output Power is a perfectly flat line.

EDIT:
I have now also attached the SNRM graph for the same period

hmmmm  I can honestly see Ive not seen one like that before. :(

However closer inspection seems to show that its alternating between 0 and the normal expected range (18-20dBm), therefore I suspect it may be something like a reporting issue rather than an actual problem.

It's a bug in Broadcom's driver, Paul.

It only appears to be an issue on this ADSL connection (it may be for ALL ADSL connections).

The same modem model on my VDSL2 connection shows some slight power fluctuations, peaking at around 11pm every night (1st attached example) & hardly any at all on most other VDSL2 connections (2nd attached example).

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the MSAN, to which the line in question is connected, has an Infineon chip set.

So, ideally, we would like to see other examples of where there are Broadcom chip set CPEs and Infineon chip set MSANs/DSLAMs. Preferably where the CPE is a Huawei HG612???

FWIW, I have attached the snapshot graphs from the same connection for reference (earlier date).

TBH though, I don't know if they look good or bad for an ADSL2 connection.

The QLN graph looks a little odd, below tone 50, to my eye. But there again I have never really studied the data in such detail, before now.

Perhaps someone else would care to comment?  :-\
