More than 300,000 people, including many in the UK, could be affected, when the FBI shuts down servers today as part of their fight against computer crime.

I hope this is not going to be OpenDNS !!

DNS Changer inspection page

Good news:

Your DNS settings appear to be ok. Your computer or router is most probably not infected with DNS changer malware.

No further action is required.

PC users can visit this website to instantly check if their computer has been infected.

What a fascinating story.  I was initially open-minded that it was a scam, that the story itself was a very successful virus, having 'infected' the newspapers.  But I dug deeper, and the basic story does seem to be corroborated and explained on what appears to be a genuine US govt website...

The FBI obtained a court order authorizing the Internet Systems Consortium (ISC) to deploy and maintain temporary clean DNS servers
...<much deleted>...
The clean DNS servers will be turned off on July 9, 2012, and computers still impacted by DNSChanger may lose Internet connectivity at that time.

Its legit, the story has been doing the rounds for a while now.. and theres a few threads about it.  ie when it was first discovered... then when the FBI gave 12 months notice they were going to turn the serves off.. and iirc a more recent one.

I could be wrong but calling it internet doomsday may be over the top

First cases of this are appearing on Sky forums now.

If it was up to me I think I'd leave them as they are.

Sorry if this sounds elitist but some people are really too stupid to have anything other than a heavily managed (filtered) internet connection.

Sorry if that sounds harsh but IME about 20% of the people I come in contact with shouldn't be allowed to have anything more interactive than a TV/Wii. They are simply too stupid to cope with it - I'm talking IQ, not age, education or background here.
