laptop only has 1 Antennal wire?
« on: June 15, 2012, 10:06:29 PM »

My sisters new Acer Aspire 5733 only has 1 wire/antenna on the card (which has 2 ports) - it only connects at 65Mbps on Wireless N (upto 130Mbps) and 135Mbps on upto 270Mbps channel bonding

does having 1 ariel affect range>?

i find it odd, its the first time ive seen just 1 ariel..? even our 6 yr old acer wireless G laptop has 2 ariels?

have they missed one out during manufacturing?

Have a look at this thread about the same laptop and its wifi throughput speeds.

The adapter should give you 150mbps with only one antenna. You will not be able to attain 300mbps unless you add a second antenna which is a bit more complicated.

It's hard to achieve decent 802.11g speeds with one antenna let alone 802.11n ones.
If you want to see any improvement in signal quality and throughput you should install second antenna (which is not really a straightforward task as it requires quite a bit of laptop disassembling) and to achieve any decent throughput (above 150mbps) you need to upgrade your Wi-Fi card.
