Seems like a bit of news "filler" to me Astral.

Cutting to the chase, what they are saying is that all complex software has bugs which can be exploited.

I'm afraid there is simply no way to prevent that as (for example) a specific version of software compiled on a different version of the compiler/linker can (and usually does) produce different binary code. Even the most carefully written C++ can be turned into mangled, bug ridden code by the compiler/linker. Of course the compiler/linker is also software and requires updates to reflect microcode updates to the processor itself. The processor is designed by software etc etc.

Oh well, at least it kept a couple of researchers in a job!

Don't the researchers now have a product they want to sell though? :D

Sometimes I think the whole "IT security" industry is nothing more than a load of people selling snake oil ;)

It's been argued with some justification that it's in the interests of antivirus companies to make sure that the viruses keep coming, so they can keep selling updates to their software.

Eric,
We at AVG could take offence at your remark if we didn't know that you were joking.
