I have tried a different filter into test socket and same noise on handset, i have no extensions connected so no need to test socket downstairs. will keep an eye on router stats

This is important. Without the modem/router connected and without any microfilter connected, if there is still noise on the line when a corded telephone plugged into the test-socket then you definitely have a line fault which should be fixed (without any charge to you) under the terms of provision of the telephony service.

thank you burakkucat for the info i have to buy a corded phone and check it out as i dont have one in my posession, will buy 1 from argos as its only a fiver :).

Naheed,

I know its only a fiver for the phone but is there noone you can borrow a corded phone from that can confirm it works 100% on there line. No point in you spending money just to do diagnostics.
