Re: How to Edit ISP Login Details via Busybox? NETGEAR DG834GT
« Reply #1 on: May 05, 2012, 01:32:23 PM »

If you are on a Sky firmware for the DG834GT, here is how to change the username and password (I am assuming you are on PPPoA).

1. Telnet into the router
2. Type "nvram set pppoa_username=YOURUSERNAME@HERE
3. Typr "nvram set pppoa_password=YOURPASSWORDHERE

That's it!

Thanks for that..  useful information :)

Sorry you had to answer yourself.  I did see your question this morning, but didnt know and since Ive not got my DG834GT hooked up, I couldnt have a browse to see if I could see anything.  My days of switching between routers is long - everytime I do a resync these days, I loose a bit more sync speed. (Lost about 3.5Mbps in the past couple of years)..  therefore I just leave my router alone and no more playing for me :(

I may be in a minority, but I was unaware of the 'nvram' command until I found this thread.

It seems very useful.  I note from a quick search that 'nvram show' will list other NV parameters that can be set the same way.  In fact I just tried 'nvram show', and it produces an extremely useful display of many settings, even including the wifi passphrase and the login password in plain text.  Perfect for an old-fashioned archive, of the form that can be pinned to the wall with a drawing pin!

Sorry if everybody else already knew this, it was welcome news to me  :)

The nvram command is new to me too. It's not part of the standard Broadcom CLI, so I don't know what routers support it.

Should I make a wiki article of this since it sounds quite useful. Let me know what you think.

Are we actually sure that it works with the original Netgear firmware on the DG834GT? I have a feeling that this is a custom addition, because it isn't part of the regular Broadcom CLI.

I have had a quick grep of the Broadcom sources and cannot find any convincing evidence of an nvram command.

Like Eric, I suspect that is not a feature of the standard Broadcom firmware image(s).

Thanks 7LM. So it appears to be a BusyBox command. One might hypothesise that only those routers which expose the BusyBox CLI to the telnet interface would have the nvram command available.
