 :hmm:  Hmm . . . Can't argue with callipers. (Though we could query their calibration!  ::)  )

I would be tempted to look out for anything about 1.35mm/3.8mm. (What is give or take 0.1mm ? Not a great deal.)

So any one of 1.2mm/3.6mm, 1.2mm/3.7mm, 1.2mm/3.8mm, 1.3mm/3.6mm, 1.3mm/3.7mm, 1.3mm/3.8mm, 1.4mm/3.6mm, 1.4mm/3.7mm or 1.4mm/3.8mm should be "usable".  :)

Maybe the model number of the PSU for the DSL-2780 can shed some light?

The DSL-2680 has a PSU labelled AMS47-1200500FB  (output 12v DC / 500mA)..

That PSU is from the Global Yeou Diann Electrification Industrified Company Ltd. [1].

Global Yeou Diann trades as Amigo Elec and supplies, amongst others, the following DC barrel plugs with its PSUs..

PG-01 Type 10 looks like a good fit..

OD = 3.5mm
ID = 1.35mm
LEN = 9.5mm

Your calipers have an impressive caliber!

cheers, a

 :D You're amazing!

I will check in a while to confirm the model of the PSU - don't want to lose my connection at the moment by unplugging it.

As was said by burakkucat, there's a few nearly correct sized plugs I could try - will look later, see if I can get a kit of adaptors or something that has a range of sizes, could be useful for other things as well.

I'll definitely second that!   :clap:

Just checked the PSU for the DLINK DSL-2780

It's not the one Asbokid thought it was  :(  Maybe they've used different PSUs on different batches?  (maybe this one is cheaper and noisier?  :D )

Attached is a picture of the PSU, but to summarise

It's manufactured by Leader Electronics Inc, and it's model is MV12-Y120100-B2 and is branded D-Link on the voltage label.

Having today failed to buy a power connector from a well-known high street electronics store of Essex origin, I ordered a 3.5mm /1.3mm plug from ebay.  When it arrives, and if it fits the DSL-2780 after all this, I'll start my experiment : comparing the speed, s/n margin etc when running on the switch mode PSU and when run from an isolated 12Volt Nicad battery.

If you don't hear from me again, it's because I got the polarity wrong and the modem went pop  ???

 :hmm:  Are you likely to do so?  :angel:

I shall repeatedly check polarity with a meter as I proceed.  I'm sure it'll be fine  :baby:

(and voltage actually, just to be sure the output from my 12v Nicad pack is comparable with that of the 12v from the little switch mode supply.  If the results are interesting, I've also an old PSU from a PC I might try to power it, as a 3rd comparison)

I've now done some tests on battery vs mains power for a modem.  To make them easier to find for future tinkerers, I've started a new topic for them :)
