BT Speedtest - ASSURED RATE Services
« on: February 12, 2012, 08:39:39 PM »

This may be in the wrong section, but as it could possibly partly explain my currently poor FTTC service.............

I got a new option today from the BT speed test (at least I have not noticed it previously & it wasn't there last week).

I noticed a continue button in the bottom L/H corner of the speed test results with the message "We have identified that you have additional services enabled on my broadband line, please click continue to run advanced service tests"

Additional Services screenshot

This was the result of the test:-

BT Assured Rate Test

I missed grabbing the screen, but it was something to do with broadband TV.

I haven't asked for these additional services.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Assurred rate is usually applied to BT Retail (Infinity + ADSL2+) customers with BT Vision. The idea being to ensure Vision has reserved bandwidth across the BT network, providing QoS, especially during peak periods.

I've no idea if Retail are applying Assured rate as a rule to Infinity products, but perhaps a question best asked of them.

I did note that your assured rate profile is 0 which made me wonder if the BTW speedtest has thrown a wobbly. Not unkonwn ;)

I don't have & don't want BT Vision (at the moment).

Yes, I noticed the profile of 0.

I might be clutching at straws here (nothing else is working out), but I wonder if that could just be the one thing that is currently capping my speeds from what they were at first ???

Hi b*cat,

I have just check my neighbour's line. The screenshots are attached, below.

Isn't that the line that syncs at 40Mb?

The 30Mb download speed looks low in the screenshot.

Are his speeds otherwise still O.K?

EDIT:
I just had another look & it does show 35Mb in the first screenshot.

Yes, you have guessed correctly -- it is Gordon's line. What I failed to mention, previously, was that I checked it wirelessly.

My main reason for posting the screenshots is to confirm the presence of the new section . . .   :)

Gentlefolk,

There are a significant number of changes with the latest BT Speedtester software as we first noticed yesterday.

I am about to document what I observe but amongst other things it now requires to run an Applet and one such item is called tickerapplet2.
Although it says you have to wait an hour, the error that produces now says wait 10 minutes EDIT 2, which has been proven now & that you only waste 10 minutes of your time.
The IP address of the BT service is now no longer shown.
I too observe the additional items, but that produces an error.
EDIT But it worked on the second attempt.

EDIT 2 Below is a PDF of the BT FAQs hardly written for the novice though. BT still tell you what is acceptable from their viewpoint.
It is a little presumptuous to use fine in this context, particularly if you are on a horrible BT line.

Acceptable range of speeds is 288-500 Kbps. If your download speed lies in this range, then there is no fault on your line and your Broadband service is deemed to be
working fine.

Kind regards,
Walter
