Broadband For the Rural North
« on: February 12, 2012, 09:59:44 AM »

Gentlefolk,

Their February newsletter should speak volumes to those that want to listen.
It will be interesting to see if that includes Lancashire County Council (and BDUK).

Kind regards,
Walter

1000 Mbps upstream and downstream guaranteed!

If this can really be done economically in a thinly populated rural area, why isn't it being done everywhere?

@ Eric,

EDIT
It is one thing asking a determined rural population (and already know how to mole-plough land drains), who have largely been ignored, to willingly provide free wayleaves to a Community Interest Company, and quite another to force the incumbent with an ageing infrastructure to do likewise in urban areas. A sparse area will also not require the capacity that urban areas do.

Nevertheless the B4RN project provides a vital demonstration to the likes of BDUK which is why I am a strong supporter.
I hope others will do so too.
Perhaps then we might replicate the design even in sunny Surrey !

Once sufficient rural areas have vastly superior services everybody might wake up to the possibility of FTTH particularly where Virgin Media have ducting to almost every house already.

@ Kitz,

VERY sorry but Lancashire is quite a large County !

However I'm sure B4RN would be overjoyed if you and all your friends would like to contribute !

Rest assured that I shall report on all the happenings in due course !

Kind regards,
Walter

PS Guess who was in Lancaster last December ? !!

I spy, with my feline eye, someone who's name begins with W . . . (on the r.h. side of the picture).  ::)

Gentlefolk,

It's REALLY happening now.

http://www.scribd.com/doc/85520919

How about getting your walking boots on around Jubilee Tower Qwernmore on Saturday 31st March around lunchtime ?

You too could become an investor - no matter where you live.

Kind regards,
Walter

@ Kitz,

I believe it's a camera-friendly place with reasonable parking.

Let's hope it's not blowing a hurricane !

It will take me about 4 hours the day before, but I believe I've found an excellent hostelry !

Kind regards,
Walter
