Openreach have recently announced that they are proposing (for a charge to ISPs) to provide more detailed "value add DSL data" i.e. FTTC connection stats to ISPs.

It seems a bit cheeky to charge for it when the data could/should have been available via the supplied modems & also available to ISPs in the first place.

I wonder if all ISPs will adopt this proposal?

It also begs the question: How on earth could ISPs satisfactorily & commercially provide FTTC services in the absence of such basic performance data?

I know for a fact that my ISP (Plusnet) has not had access to such data. I have ended up having to provide some of it for them.

I wonder if I should now submit my retrospective invoice to them for customer provided services?

1.  Somebody with infinite patience and tenacity should be battling the "buroids" in Ofcom to raise a formal complaint.
( NO I've got far too much on my plate already !)

2.  Furthermore I very much doubt if the detail and quantity of data available locally could be stored for every VDSL modem BT Openreach have installed.

3.  As so much of this firmware is based upon freely distributed open source that might also be an approach ?
Surely a vendor should not be making a profit from that community ?

Very good points.  Every Huawei HG612 contains an identical 2048-bit asymmetric public key for which there is a corresponding private key.  That key enables remote access to the device. Access can be used to run all manner of diagnostic tools. These include the tools already in the firmware, and also tools that are dynamically uploaded to the device.  There was a missed opportunity, here. Or maybe it was by design. If that key pair had been unique to each modem, the private key to the CPE could have been shared with a communication provider for performing its own diagnostics on a subscriber line.

The firmwares of the HG612 SP06, HG612 SP10, and the ECI B-FOCuS all contain a 2048-bit RSA public key for TR069 remote management [1].

As can be seen, the key is identical in all three models of modem:
