Why don't you just fit a long length of wire or string to a bolt with a hole driled in it for the wire to go through.

Then take hose and wire to local garage and with the tyre air hose blast the bolt through the hose.

Take it home attach cable to the wire and pull it through the hose.

Or, tie a metal nut or something similar to some light string, then run a good magnet along the outside to drag the nut and string through the hose.

Next.

That is a really good idea. The obvious prerequisite is to have the protective hose held flat and straight, as OF states.

Or & finally.

Using a Y adaptor on the hose, with one side connected to the water, push the string into the other opening and into the water, the natural water pressure will push the string through the hose the same as if was unblocking it.

A similar method can also work by simply making a hole near to the start then again pushing the string inside, again the water pressure should force the string along the hose.

Bye.........

You would not get all the water out of the tube.!  :'(
Re.. "This way the inner cable is not constantly lying in water as it will if you use a cut hose"

Yet a further way .
Tie the end of the string to a mouse's tail, put it in the end of the tube, put a small piece of strong cheese in the other end of the pipe, wait, wait a bit longer, go and have a cup of tea, watch for the mouse, catch mouse while its eating the cheese and take off string, tie string onto the end of the cable, get someone to push in the cable in while its being pulled through the pipe from the other end, job done. ;)

Trench dug to depth of 6", hose in trench, trench filled in and turf relaid...

Not deep enough  :'( ! Its got to be at least a (If not ) more than a spade depth or for mains cables 450mm deep !

Thank you all for your further  :)comments, hints and tips.

It would seem that TD has made a  pig's ear of this job right from start to finish, and that will have to be redone.. :(

I don't feel up to that at the moment, so for the duration the cable will have to take it's chances......at least until I get my energy back

Thanks again.

Well reading all the hints and tips....use string, vacuumn cleaners, nuts and bolts, compressors, pipe lagging etc,

it reminded me of the 1970's TV programme HOW with Fred Dineage and Dr Magnus Pyke

My method..

Dig trench, lay metal conduit, thread cable down conduit, connect and test cable to satellite system, backfill trench,go to the pub  ;) :drink:

Kate, the Scots are more famous for short arms and deep pockets than us Yorkshire folk.
All fabrication I might add. :)
