Start Menu
« on: December 01, 2011, 09:00:52 PM »

Until recently I only had three items in my start menu, now every time I use a programme, say MS Word it gets added to my Start Menu, I used to know how to prevent this but have now forgotten can anyone please remind me? ???

Click on the "Start" button to open the Menu.

If there are any program icons that you do not want, right click on that icon and from the drop down menu that opens, click on "remove from list"
Do that on all unwanted icons until you have left only the three that you wish.

Then rght click on the "Start" button, and from the drop down menu that opens go properties>customize start menu>general and in there adjust the field "number of programs on start menu".............if you enter 0 ( zero)  in there, it should prevent any further entries being added to the main Menu.

It can be slightly different depending which version of Windows you have as well, but there's a bit more to this that might help...
The list is actually in 2 parts, pinned and recent.
You can control how many items are in each list through the Start properties (as TD said) if you need more/less as well as icon size.
Entries will disappear automatically from the recent (lower) list with lack of use.
A right-click on a recent entry allows you to pin it (the upper section)
