I was under the impression this was a general discussion on this specific model of modem. Perhaps a thread specifically for the reverse engineering of this modem would be more appropriate?

Perhaps Eric could wave his Administrator's Wand over this thread and magically move the reverse engineering posts into a new thread of their own?

^-^ Please . . .

I'm afraid it will have to wait until tomorrow, as my rheumy old eyes are tending to close at the moment...

It's done now, to the best of my limited ability.

Sorry for raising an old thread, but I found it interesting that I've not seen any mention yet of the size difference between the Huawei and the ECI models.

The ECI is much more sizeable (I'd say close to 50% larger by volume) - perhaps the secret as to how it's so much cooler running?

EDIT: Craftily revised down my guess to how much larger the ECI is :p

:hmm:  Hmm . . . an interesting postulation.

Let's see --

Huawei HG612

12 x 16 x 3 cm = 576 cubic centimetres

ECI B-FOCuS

13.2 x 17.7 x 3.5 cm = 817.74 cubic centimetres

So the increase in volume --

(817.74 - 576) / 576 x 100 = 41.9 %

Perhaps Asbokid has some power consumed v power radiated figures for each device that could be also thrown into the calculation pot?  :-\

I blame the wall mounting for altering my perception of the ECI's size  :P It may not be twice the size but it's noticeably larger isn't it?

It is noticeable, I agree. That one-and-a-bit extra centimetres on both the height and the width certainly plays a part.  :D

To add to the photos taken by uklad, there are some more to upload showing the PCB of the ECI.

cheers, a
