DOS security message from router
« on: November 02, 2007, 10:23:23 PM »

Hi,
On a set-up I keep an eye on, the Netgear router has e-mailed me a security alert this evening and last evening as follows: -
UDP Packet - Source:212.58.227.89,22430 Destination:xx.xxx.xxx.xxx,6970 - [DOS] (=Denial Of Service)
When I looked up the source address it said: -
IP Address : 212.58.227.89
Location   : United Kingdom (95% accuracy)
Host Name  : rm19.rbsov.bbc.co.uk
The RIPE database seems to say it is an address owned by the BBC.

Anyone know what is going on, how do I stop it please?
Terry.

It's Real Audio or Real Video so nothing to worry about.

At a guess someone closed RealPlayer while the stream was playing or RealPlayer fell over in a heap (not unheard of ;) ) when it tried to open a stream from the BBC site. Router IDS loses the plot (very common) and then flags it as a DoS.

Hope that helps reassure you :)
