Setting Up Billlion 7300n router
« on: December 27, 2011, 09:04:57 PM »

I'm having problems with the setup disk for my new 7300n router.
When the autorun starts the setup utility is supposed to run, but I cannot get that far.
I get a warning:
"This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer"
which seems to originate from the "Menu" .exe file

The setup directory on the CD is empty(?)

I have nothing running on the computer I am using other than Microsoft Security Essentials, CCleaner, Spybot, RogueRemover,
& Malwarebytes, & a few Firefox addons.

Any suggestions please?

Is it likely that MSE is blocking it?

It's usually much less trouble to ignore the setup disk and configure the router manually. You should be able to use a browser to acccess its web interface, and just enter the necessary connection details provided by your ISP.

Thanks. I'm not overly sure that I can do that, but having previously installed my Netgear via the setup
routine I think I have an idea of how it goes. Worth a try.

Thanks

I have a billion (BiPAC 7800N) but not the same model as you.

If you  enter the setup page using browser (192.168.1.254) there may be an auto option popup menu, or at least I think that is  what mine does although I just did it all manual.

Look for "Quick Start" in the left hand side menu bar.

Thank you for that BritBat
I've given it a manual try and wasn't able to get a connection. I've also tried uninstalling all of my security software and still got
the "error" message from the CD. I'll have look see how that quick start guide goes. If all else fails I have an old laptop on XP where
the CD might work

You do not need the CD and infact it  normally makes things worse.

Do it manual.

SETTINGS:
Not all router set ups are quite the same and you may not need to input all of the following information, but in general the settings you need to configure are:-

 Protocol/Encapsulation :- PPPoA (PPP over ATM)
 Multiplexing method: VC-BASED or VC-Mux
(On some routers the above 2 settings may be combined as "PPPoA VC-Mux".)
 VPI = 0
 VCI = 38
 DSL Standard: G.dmt
 Security Protocol: CHAP
user: eg "youraccount@aol.com" or "username@plusdsl.net" etc
password: "yourpassword"

Get IP Dynamically from ISP

Thank you BritBat, your info was very helpful.

Got it done now, rather more easily than I expected. I think I was making something out of nothing :-[
