Lost Access to some sites via Orange
« on: January 26, 2008, 08:46:01 PM »

I have come across a thread on VNU about  lots of Orange subscribers not being able to get certain sites.
This is the thread:
http://forums.vnunet.com/thread.jspa?threadID=128890&tstart=0
I am on Orange and it is working OK EXCEPT for the sites mentioned in the thread which are:
www.hmv.co.uk
www.waterstones.com
www.play.com
I tried them and they all timed out, no idea why but Orange are saying it is not their end.
Could any non-Orange person please try them and let us know.
Thanks.

All sites are working fine here.

However Ive just done a tracert to each and none of those webservers are responding to ICMP pings.
Therefore I strongly suspect it could be an MTU problem

Other sites that may not work are hotmail, ebay etc.

Try lowering your MTU to 1430 - or even 1400. (I'd try 1430 first).
Details how to do that - MTU tweaking.

Thanks Kitz.
It is not bothering me so I will leave my settings.
Just seen your post over the road.
It should help those who need advice.
Cheers,
dave

yw.

It wont be the first time that this has happened to Orange users.
They "tweaked" something on their network about a year or so ago which caused the same situation for an awful lot of their customers.
In fact it was such a nuisance for orange users, that Orange Problems linked customers to my site on how to rectify the situation.
