Cisco 887VA on a FTTC VDSL implementation.
« on: December 25, 2011, 02:41:34 PM »

Happy Christmas Kitzers!

Anyone successfully configured and used a Cisco 887VA on a FTTC VDSL implementation.  Googling I can find people who have it working with the HG612 but not using it's built in VDSL modem.

We're wires only here (and yes, there is a delay with Jan 16 being the first orders install date - BT dragging their feet AND operating outside of their SLU SLA...) but I'm looking for success stories!

No experience with Cisco kit, sorry.

Though it will be interesting to see the performance of the Cisco 887VA.

The Cisco is unlikely to outperform the Huawei since they share the same Broadcom 6368 chipset. [1] [2]

The HG612 was probably chosen by Openreach to match the Broadcom-based linecards found in Huawei's SmartAX 5600 series of DSLAM. [3] [4]

As for configuring the 887VA for Openreach's VDSL2 offering,  be sure to select a tagged VLAN channel of 101. [5]

From the limited info on the 887VA, it seems to share the same firmware bug feature found in other devices based on the 6368 CPU: line attenuation is always reported as zero! [6] [7]

cheers, a
