I must get out more often
« on: October 28, 2007, 04:19:36 PM »

Thanks to BT and a "situation" in their exchange, I have just suffered a 24 hour disconnection from the great world of the internet.  :(

I have been up the wall, down the wall, kicked the dog (and the neighbours dog), taken to drink, committed suicide, divorced the missus of 50 years, stuck pins in effigies of BT engineers and wept in a darkened room.  :'(

Back on now, maybe just in time to regain some sanity. ;D

You can get hooked on this internet business, can't you, and when deprived, it is like losing an arm.  :o

Surely all you needed to do was take to drink. That's my normal approach to deprivation.

Think what it was like for me back in July without my internet for a week... it's a good job I live alone, otherwise I would have been unbearable.

A week ???? Good grief, how did you survive ?

The trouble with only taking to drink and putting all the childish stuff to one side is that the missus may then come back............can't have that !!  >:D

Agh......... DeJavu
Sounds just like a dream I had last night.

I have even discovered recently there are people out there that don't even have a PC, let alone internet connections
You know the ones, the ones with the nice tidy houses and gardens and always seem to be decorating or washing the car or some other kind of chore, is this just to keep busy I wonder?  >:D

Men think that computers should be referred to as female, just like ships, because:

       1. No one but their creator understands their internal logic.
       2. The language in which they communicate among themselves is incomprehensible to everyone else.
       3. The message "Bad command or File Name" is about as informative as "if you don't know why I'm mad at you, I'm certainly not going to tell you !"
       4. Your smallest mistakes are stored in long term memory for later retrieval.
       5. As soon as you make a commitment to one, you spend half your salary on accessories for it.
       6.  You do the same thing for years, and suddenly it's wrong.

Women think computers are male because:

       1. They have lots of data, but are still clueless.
       2. They are supposed to solve problems, but half the time they ARE the problem.
       3. As soon as you commit to one, you realize that if you had only waited a bit longer, you could have had a better model.
       4. To get their attention, you have to "turn them on".
       5. A big "power-surge" will knock them out for the rest of the night !
       6. It is always necessary to have a backup.
       7. They'll do whatever you say if you push the right buttons.
       8. Size does matter.

A friend used to be a very keen gardener. She grew veg, fruit, you name it. They never needed to buy spuds or carrots. Loads of tomatoes in summer etc etc.

Then I introduced her to online gaming - specifically first player shooter games (MoH:AA I think). They need to buy LOTS of veg now

Edit - she is very very very good at FPS games though. She's no slouch at flight sims (fighting ones) either which is unusual for women as they generally have poorer spatial awareness than men (well there HAS to be something we're better at :P )

I must admit after now being in my 10th year online not having access to the net does seem strange.

Ive just been away where there was no nettage and one evening was extremely bored at what was on tv, so was anti-social and pulled out my lappy whilst everyone else watched the match. As I was sat coding one of the things that annoyed was I couldnt just quickly pull of a reference to a website or look up something.
