I know there will be many parades and ceremonies taking place today but for one second today it will be 11:11:11 :11:11:11 (though of course that should be 2011 but it looks better abbreviated!)

At about that time, I will be at the Memorial in the Church Square......I will play on my pipes "The Flowers of the Forest", that most haunting of all funeral marches.

I will remember all my oppos who did not return home......I will remember my mother, buried on this date many years ago, and I will remember my dear late wife.

In every town and village in France today  people will remember in front of their  local memorial; we shall be at our village memorial.  I'll think of you TD playing your pipes with all your memories, I found your words extremely moving.

I shall be thinking of you TD on this day that has many painful memories for you.Yet through all the pain I hope you will take time to remember the many,many lovely memories you will have of years gone by.

I always think of my late grandfather who was wounded on the Somme.He carried shrapnel in his leg all through his life until his death in 1963. :(

Just in time for tomorrow we found a lone poppy was in bloom this morning in our front garden.

Very appropriate, even if it is only 45 days to Christmas! ;D
