Problems?
« on: October 23, 2011, 08:36:20 PM »

Hi there Im either being paranoid or am just a noob when it comes to these sort of things however over the last 5 months I have noticed a few things that are bothering me with my connection. I seem to be getting a lot more crc, hec and error seconds than I used to. I am with Be Broadband and am using the Be box that came with it. To prove my point heres some router stats from April

Uptime:   8 days, 19:39:14

DSL Type:   G.992.5 Annex M US 56

Maximum Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]:   2,555 / 26,153

Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]:   2,563 / 23,657

Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [kB/kB]:   0.00 / 0.00

Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]:   13.0 / 18.0

Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]:   5.5 / 7.5

SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]:   4.0 / 5.5

Vendor ID (Local/Remote):   TMMB / BDCM

Loss of Framing (Local/Remote):   0 / 0

Loss of Signal (Local/Remote):   0 / 0

Loss of Power (Local/Remote):   0 / 0

Loss of Link (Remote):   0

Error Seconds (Local/Remote):   0 / 0

FEC Errors (Up/Down):   993 / 0

CRC Errors (Up/Down):   993 / 241

HEC Errors (Up/Down):   3,413 / 184

and heres some stats from a few days ago

Uptime:   7 days, 11:18:02

DSL Type:   G.992.5 Annex M US 56

Maximum Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]:   2,585 / 25,998

Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]:   2,567 / 23,579

Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [kB/kB]:   0.00 / 0.00

Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]:   13.0 / 18.0

Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]:   5.5 / 7.5

SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]:   4.0 / 4.0

Vendor ID (Local/Remote):   TMMB / BDCM

Loss of Framing (Local/Remote):   0 / 0

Loss of Signal (Local/Remote):   0 / 0

Loss of Power (Local/Remote):   0 / 0

Loss of Link (Remote):   0

Error Seconds (Local/Remote):   60 / 0

FEC Errors (Up/Down):   72 / 0

CRC Errors (Up/Down):   72 / 11,025

HEC Errors (Up/Down):   33,690 / 702

As you can see the errors are vastly different. Nothing has changed in my home apart from the fact im using a laptop wirelessly instead of wired. Can anyone shed any light on any of this??

Hello, xSOViiET, and welcome to the Forum.  :)

I'm bumping your thread as it appears to have slipped through the net and remains unanswered.

Sorry about that, and I'm sure the tech. experts will be along soon to look at your query.

Have you tweaked the SNR downwards ?

Have you used the test socket to confirm either of the sets of stats ?

Agreed that on such a short line there has been an increase in D/S CRCs and Error Seconds but for a 7 day uptime I don't see the levels are significant. Also the connection speed is consistent and the sync is stable.

Hi
well I bet there are many that would wish to have such a good connection .
quote;
FEC Errors (Up/Down):   993 / 0
CRC Errors (Up/Down):   993 / 241
HEC Errors (Up/Down):   3,413 / 184
these stats seem odd very unusual to have more errors on the upstream(maybe its because of the relatively High synch),even more of a coincidence is that the FECs are exactly the same as the CRCs ,after 8 days that is very unusual .
Error Seconds (Local/Remote):   0 / 0 ,rather surprised I would have expected some errors with the amount of HEC errors

latest

FEC Errors (Up/Down):   72 / 0
CRC Errors (Up/Down):   72 / 11,025  : these CRCs are nothing to worry about ,in 200 hrs That is  about 1/min
HEC Errors (Up/Down):   33,690 / 702

these are also odd, reduction in US FEC and CRC errors  yet both still the same ??? router reporting error?
HEC errors US much larger for similar up time now showing some
Error Seconds (Local/Remote):   60 / 0  which is as expected .

both these sets of stats suggest the you have no FEC running on Downstream .

the level of noise is so low that I would not really worry. The only time to worry is if the errors happened in a very short time ,if spread over the whole uptime then  :)
Regards Jeff

Thanks for the feedback guys, most of what you said is hard to understand as I am not too clever when it comes to computers, however all sounds ok ish. I was just a little concerned as to why my connection sort of deteriorated over time. I cant connect to a test socket as I have an external nte and as for tweaking my snr I have no idea how to do that lol. I have however set my profile to standard with a 6db SNR and all seems ok for now. Once It has been up for a few days I will post my router stats again.

Also thank you for the warm welcome  :P
