Hello Im new and need advice please
« on: October 24, 2011, 10:37:05 PM »

I am with o2 on the 8mb package

Was always on a snr of 6db up and 6db down and all as worked well for a few years on the o2 thompson wireless 2 box

Basically 2 weeks ago i started having problems with disconnections every minute
so o2 decidedto up it up to 15snr just to get a stable connection but my speed has gone down from 5.8mb to around 2.5mb and i aint happy

Anyway I rang them today and told them to reset my profile to what it was 2 weeks ago and i decided to use my netgear to adjust the snr myself

after trying all day i finally got to a stage where i wasnt disconnecting but i had to up the snr to 13

ive installed router stats but to be honest i aint got a clue what to look out for

ive tried it in test socket and get same results

it says im syncing at 4800 but on the speedtests ill be lucky if it shows 2000 and although router seems to be connected i sometimes cannot get on webpages

o2 are unwilling to help saying there is no fault etc so im thinking of changing

would anybody be kind enough to help me please?

my stats so far are

upstream interleave is on
downstream interleave if off

Hello & welcome littlebw,
I'm going to be quite blunt here and say the 8mb package has the same inherent fault as BT's own 8mb package and that is the dependence on the ip profile.
You say you had a number of disconnections in fairly quick succesion, this will lower your connection rate to get a stable connection. It takes a long, long time of a stable connection for the exchange equipment to raise the ip profile and get your stats back to what they were before your disconnections.
I would suggest that if o2 have a LLU service from your exchange then switch to it asap. There is many fascinating pages within the main Kitz site, written to help people like yourself by Kitz, that will probably make more sense to you.
There no doubt will be many good comments from other members as they come along.

Thank you very much - im still searching on these forums etc for help

Just noticed that although router and connection never dropped i have been losing internet connection because msn and splashtop logged in and out twice just a couple of minutes away

so theres nothing i can do except sit and wait?
i was going to drop the snr today to around 12 to see if that stopped stable

looks like im gonna have to leave o2 and get another provider

Just to be clear, are you now saying that the ADSL connection is stable, but dropouts are occurring in your internet connection to the ISP? If this is the case, then changing the target noise margin isn't going to be of any help - it's a problem which only the ISP can help with.  However, if the ADSL connection is dropping then that needs to be investigated first, because it will happen whatever ISP you are with.

First off that is an O2 ADSL2+ LLU connection.

The cause of your current fault may be the ongoing problem at LINX. There have been many complaining of similar symptoms on various forums.

http://beusergroup.co.uk/

To be more certain, could you re-connect the O2 router in the test socket and post back with the stats please ?

:-[ Sorry, Oranged is quite correct about the ADSL2+

Your opening statement >> I am with o2 on the 8mb package <<
put me on the wrong track as I far as I know the only 8mb package with o2 is the ip profile package. I will hold my hands up and turned off somewhat when I was confronted with all the stats and didn't read them. I should have done.
Enough said I will leave you in the capable hands of Oranged. :)

I also note that interleaving is stated as OFF which would be odd if noise margins are being manipulated upwards to limit a problem.  ???
(this is set by the ISP, you can't control it from the router)

as I far as I know the only 8mb package with o2 is the ip profile package.

Easily done ss44......you forgot that there are still some lucky O2ers who haven't relinquished their legacy Standard LLU package. And you are correct, currently there isn't an LLU 8mb package only the 8mb O2 Access (IPStream) package.

Sorry for the confusion folks

I am on an o2 8mb package and been on this about 4/5 years so i presume is the legacy package

if i put o2 box in test socket it will disconnect all the time as o2 have said they have re set my profile to 6 snr

so do you want me to disconnect my netgear router which has upped the downstream snr to 13

should i ring o2 up and ask them to turn off the downstream interleaving?

Yes use the O2 router in the test socket just for the test purpose of posting the stats. Once that's done you can change back to the Netgear.

But from what you've said so far it looks to be a fault that only O2 can resolve. The O2 router in the test socket will give a better idea.

Make sure you copy and paste the full details from this page of the router http://192.168.1.254/cgi/b/dsl/dt/?be=0&l0=1&l1=0 also check this page http://192.168.1.254/cgi/b/ST/?be=0&l0=0&l1=-1 and post the details of this line only

Well it's certainly worth asking if it's on or not and if not, why not?
