Moving House when on Virgin Cable - What are my options?
« on: August 12, 2011, 05:18:43 PM »

Hi,

I currently have Virgin media M TV and XXL (50Mbps) broadband and live in a cable area.

I just signed a new 18 month contract as a new customer on the 14th of July.

The other day I had a call from my landlord saying that I have 2 months to move out as he is being forced to sell the flat. If I can't find a new flat in a cable area, what are my options?

I really dont want to opt to get virgin national broadband, as ive heard it is abysmal, especially for heavy downloaders like myself.

Many Thanks

Well the options will depend on your local exchange.

What LLU enabled isp's there are...usual suspects are O2/Be,Sky,TalkTalk,AOL,Orange.

Or you can go with any isp who isn't LLU,as all they do is use BT's equipment.

Or you might be luck enough to be in a FTTC area, which means you will be able to get a much faster connection.

The main thing is to find out where you are moving too,and then determine what is available and find out how far you are from the exchange(just enter your postcode, phone number in the checker to find out

First of all you need to contact Virgin Media and explain the situation and see if they will let you out of the contract without paying a cancellation fee.

Hi McAll,

There is a strong possibility that they may release you from that contract provided you sign up for a new one.

Kind regards,
Walter

Hi,

Thanks for the info, I was more meaning like what happens to my contract with Virgin?

Do I have to pay a cancellation fee or am I forced to take virgin national broadband? As I mentioned Im only 1 month into my 18 month contract...

I am only talking in relation if I move to a NON-cable area.

I would follow OF's advice, only Virgin will be able to answer your question/s. :)
