Organ Donor Card T&Cs.
« on: April 13, 2008, 07:28:42 PM »

So a young lady who was dying and had signed a donor card could not stipulate that her mother (who needs a kidney transplant) should receive her kidney because the Human Tissue Authority had first claim on all her organs and first say on who should receive them.

Being a martyr in death could just result in your own family not receiving a transplant that you would, obviously, want them to have.
Think of all the consequences before signing up to the Donor Card because there is a lot in the small print that you do not get to read.

This stupid action by the HTA could quite easily result in thousands of potential donors not signing up. What a cockup!

If I am correct, are they not still supposed to get consent from the next of kin before the organs are transfered?

If that had been me, I would of rejected the consent on the grounds that they were already needed by a family member.

(But then does that also makes me selfish)  :-\

As has been said, there is a lot of information in the small print people either do not know or do not see.
