Hi all, hope you all doing good.

Just a general question about FTTP drop wire cable between a pole and property. So you have a clamp either end, and the cable goes between both. Is there actually any pull on the cable in general or is the clamps job to secure at either side and allow the cable to just sit high with little pull.

Even with the likes of very windy days and some cable movement how much is it actually stressing? Or does it just look worse when rocking about? What real force is on the pulling between clamps?

Few questions there lol.

Thanks in advance.

I think the problem is that Openreach are still working on the process to deal with the migration of lines with care alarms, and until that process is in place they have paused all installs on those lines. The issue is not so much whether the alarm will work on digital voice but whether it will continue to work during a power failure.

Thanks
Do they have an official hold on putting them in then?

You're very welcome. I hope that it does the job! They are a tricky piece of kit, I have one of my two XMG3927-B50A case open with ttl connected awaiting further work to unlock when I get the patience to continue. The other was bought from the marketplace seller previously mentioned. I'd be keen to follow your unlocking experience, which ironically would belong in Modem Router Unlocking! ( https://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php/board,53.0.html ).
I finally did it, I managed to fully unlock it.

It was really tough to put everything together, and what made it worse is that the information about unlocking it is scattered everywhere.

Thank you again for the Firmware link.

I'm gonna try to put the info together for you or anyone else that might need this information in the future.

Jsut thought i'd post an update. Some of the poles have had the boxes fitted to the top now but not all. Still unable to order and it looks like they are still working in the area. Wouldnt be surprised if its a year at this rate!

Hi
My Aunt has a homelink (never used but the LA put it in regardless) at her house. Her broadband sync on FTTC is around 1mb.
We ordered FTTP from Sky after speaking to the company who makes the homelink box and the LA where they confirmed it will work with digital voice.
I was sadly stuck on the day the OR guy turned up and couldnt be there (Dec 31st) but he called after saying he wont install because of the Homelink unless its cleared in writing.... I told him it was cleared but the mobile signal cut out and he didnt call back and I was informed he just walked off.
I contacted sky and rescheduled an appointment for the end of January where I will be there and I just got an email saying the appointment has been cancelled.

I have not called sky back to ask why but I am not sure what my Aunt is supposed to do. He did pleep on the phone about us having to get battery backup and I said did he not provide any and he said they havent for over 5 years. I told him I can order a UPS that will do even though power outages are very very rare.

Not sure what to do next.

Thanks

I think I'll contact a local phone engineer (who has 57 five-star reviews on Google and is an ex BT engineer) to install a master socket where the cable comes into the property, then plug the router directly into that.

Its certainly what I would do (well I was naughty and rewired it myself at the time), at least then you've reduced the potential for picking up interference in the house.

That's a weird setup, I mean why didn't they just put the master socket where that junction is and call it a day?

Problem is if the extension is officially the master socket now, then technically you aren't allowed to touch any of this wiring (at least not the active bits).

Is that socket below not physically connected to anything above?  I'd be tempted to completely remove it if so, or at least the cable so its clearer to see what is going on.

Seems theres a lot of loose cable in here not actually doing anything that could be cut away to make this tidier (the unused pairs from the extension cable), you just don't want to mess with anything that is the active pair.

The important thing is to not have anything connected to the active line then leading to nowhere, although from what I can see there is only two cables going into crimp, suggesting it does only connect to the new master socket and 99% of what is in here is redundant cabling.

Not sure why they didn't put the master socket where the cable comes in - it's baffling. They could've plugged the router in there and then run a phone extension to wherever they wanted the phone.

The socket below is completely disconnected (as the wires going into it/coming out of it aren't connected at all inside).

I think I'll contact a local phone engineer (who has 57 five-star reviews on Google and is an ex BT engineer) to install a master socket where the cable comes into the property, then plug the router directly into that.
