Title: Wireless connection problem.
Post by: r2d2 on September 29, 2011, 01:01:13 PM
Advice needed please.

When my friends come round and connect to my internet the router drops then re-syncs the connection, it doesn’t happen when I connect my own laptops so just wondering if there's a setting in the router that I need to change? I’m using a Netgear DG834GT running DGTeam 1014 firmware other than this the router seems to work ok.
I would be really grateful for any advice.
Thank you.

One thing which occurs is that your friends' laptops may be connecting in a different mode to your own. In the router's wireless settings, there will be various options such as 'b only', 'g only' or 'b + g' - I don't recall exactly what terms the DG834GT uses. Perhaps if you connect in mode g and they connect in mode b or something like that, perhaps this confuses the router, although it shouldn't do.

You could consider upgrading the firmware to the most recent DGTeam version, which you can get here. (http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=9d87f424360a01c8ab1eab3e9fa335ca2ed4ccc206b2f22e)
