My efforts at recovery of numerous photos accidentally deleted from the recycle bin produced duplicates or more. I am now in the process of preparing the clones for erasure, and some for editing.
I am viewing the files in Windows Photoviewer, in order date taken using very large icons and then selecting and moving several files at once to a new folder on Deasktop.
At first this worked very well: the duplicates' icons were also removed simultaneously. Now the icons remain, until a reboot removes them; at least I think so.
Ideas? Please! :)

Woops
I am viewing the files in Windows Photoviewer
Not so but in the Win7 Pictures Library.
O! those senior moments ::)

I'm not familiar with that program, but I suspect that your duplicate icon problem may be just because the window contents need refreshing. Have you tried doing a refresh (if it has that capability) or closing and reopening the program?
-
Not sure what you mean by that program? :)

I presume that the Win7 pictures library is a program which you're using to view and organise the images.

Sorry, I seem to be misleading everyone.
The libraries are where My Docs, My Pics, My Vids folders are located.
Why I just did not write "My Pictures folder" or "c:\users\name\My Pictures" is a mystery? :-[

Don't let it bother you. I get senior moments too. ;D
The same suggestion applies though. If you're looking at and manipulating the files in Windows Explorer (if that's what they still call it these days), you may need to refresh the window from time to time to see the changes.

How are you moving the files.....drag and drop, or "copy to" or "move to"

What I am doing
1. Files sorted by date taken to ensure originals and duplicates are together
2. select dup image to be removed.
3. If more than one dup of image, press control shift on last of series.
4. Holding down right mouse button, drag all duplicates of image to new location (a folder I created specially, as I wish to erase rather than delete i.d.c.
5. On appearance dialog box select "move here".
As that has worked hitherto I'm puzzled.
