2) Who was the England manager before Sven Goran Eriksson?

3) Of which football clubs are these the nicknames?

6) Which town or city has retained the FA Cup for the longest unbroken period?

7) Which team holds the record for the aggregate number of seasons spent in the English 'top flight' (i.e. modern premier league / old first division)?

8 ) Which are the only two founder members of the (English) Football League to have lost league status?

9) When did Spain last win the World Cup?

10) Who scored the winning goal for Wimbledon when they won the FA Cup in 1988, famously beating Liverpool?

Tie-breaker: Which two current English premier league / football league grounds are furthest apart, and how long would be a round trip between the two (to the nearest 5 miles)?

Oh well, that wasn't very successful.  I won't bother doing any more quizzes now... if anyone's interested the answers were:

1) a) Norwich City, b) Derby County, c) Aston Villa

2) Peter Taylor, who was manager for one game against Italy in Turin on 15.11.2000.  England lost 1-0.

3) a) Fulham, b) Luton Town, c) Northampton Town

4) a) Manchester City, b) Southampton, c) Everton

5) England, for 6 years, with Liverpool winning in 1977, 1978, 1981, Nottingham Forest in 1979, 1980, and Aston Villa in 1982.

6) Blackburn for 4 years, Blackburn Olympic winning the trophy in 1883, and Blackburn Rovers in 1884, 1885, 1886.

7) Everton, who as founder members of the football league have spent a total of 105 out of 109 seasons in the top flight (including the current season).  Arsenal however hold the record for the longest unbroken run in the top flight - 82 seasons from 1919-20 to 2007-08.

8 ) a) Stoke who dropped out of the league in 1890 and 1908, to return in 1891 and 1919 respectively.  b) Accrington Stanley who dropped out in 1893 and 1962, to return in 1921 and 2006.

9) That was a trick question, Spain have never won the World Cup.

10) Lawrie Sanchez scored the only goal of the game after 35 minutes.

Tie-Breaker - St James's Park (Newcastle United) to Home Park (Plymouth Argyle) is a round trip of about 815 miles (according to the RAC route planner).

Come on Floydy, cheer up.  We did appreciate it really! It's just unfortunate that most of us seem to know next to nothing about football.
