Title: Dell pre-installed Office 2007 Product Key
Post by: renluop on June 15, 2011, 08:27:03 PM
After my Factory reset of my Dell Inspiron desktop, that has a recovery partition but no installation CDs, I need to enter the Office program's product key.

Nowhere can I find that in the documentation sent me on purchase of the system.

Before I with heavy heart get on to Dell, has anyone ideas, where I might find the info, or ways to recover the key?

I have downloaded a number of programs, but they all have the dishonest American fault of appearing free, but actually being demos, giving only partial keys. ::)

Thanks folk :) :-[

You will have been provided the key on a separate card when the system was delivered.
It will also have said very clearly - keep this safe.

If you've lost it that's pretty much it I'm afraid.  :'(

TBH I'm as sure as dammit, there wasn't one!

Anyone describe it.. colour size?

Are Windows 7 Product keys in the same format as Office..5 blocks of 5?

I think they are.

You could have viewed the key before you did the restore.

There are other sites that also let you do the same thing.

It will not help you but others may like to get the info for their systems for future reference.

Sure as hell must have been, and it must have been typed in as well, otherwise Office would only work 25 times.

Sounds like OpenOffice might be the way to go.

Try contacting Microsoft as you may get lucky.

Also maybe the Del OEM Office all have the same key, try a Google search and try a few.

Are there any stickers on the computer case?

What Model is your computer?

EDIT:

Never mind Dell Inspiron

So that's where I've been going wrong all these years -- I've been checking the Crooks and Nannies . . . ::)

I thought of that. That's from Ability is it not?  Tried to install it, at least as a temporary measure, but "Error 1606. Could not access network location" is reported ( as it was with another program installation last evening). Tried Miscrsoft Fixit and the auto fix doesn't work. Looked at manual fix, but as first reg key varied from what ny computer showed hesitated to alter key, not being sure that Fixit version I'd downloaded was meant for Win 7 64 bit.

And is it known that OO also is compatible?

Try contacting Microsoft as you may get lucky.

I never thought of one key for all: it seems a long shot.

Stcikers, yes, but only one set that looks like a Product key.

It will not be one Key for all, well not as far as I know.

Just thought there may be a Office one on the case as well as the opreating system key.

Open office is from Sun I think.

Not really, the OEM versions, tied to a particular machine are significantly cheaper.
Dell for example did a basic business edition (not sure of the exact name) that included Outlook, Word & Excel (possibly more) for about £100.

I doubt there's any way I'd qualify for a student price.

I managed to get  the OGA Report after some finger tapping in Google. That gave "Office Status 102", which means Trial. That was not what I recall Dell's offer stating >:(, but it'd likely to be the word of little me vs the Dell colossus.

Seems either it's OpenOffice or getting , if all else fals, ia CD version from Amazon.

5 Grandchildren, but only 2 in UK at local infants and junior schools, the other 3 in Africa with parents for a couple of years. If anything the 2 here want their own computer to replace the yonks old one the son-i-l  lets them use now.

Well yes, that's exactly what I'd expect after a factory restore.

It's the code, supplied on the separate key card (that you no longer appear to have) that converts the trial to a full product.
