Just thought I would share this, I have had problems with Java for quite sometime but yesterday decided to look into it a bit more.
Java was slow and crashed leaving a hs_err_pid file on the desktop of XP, well the solution is do not update Java well not untill you have removed any older version first. Simples :)
Now it opens java pages really fast and so far no crashes.
