Hi,
About 1 hour ago my connection has been acting up. I have noticed that every 5 mins the Internet would drop and the router displays ADSL Link Down and then PPP Down under Internet Connection Status, then 10-20 seconds later the internet will be on again.
What is PPP and why would it be going down all of a sudden? My connection has been very stable for several months.
Does anyone know if this is a problem my end or is it BT/ISP problem?

Here is a screen cap of my system logs on the router:

Blurred out is my IP.
Is this an attempted hack into my network?

Hi
PPP is the actual connection to your ISP . This is established after the router has connected to your exchange .
If you drop connection to the exchange then you will also see the loss of your ISP .
To troubleshoot more info is required
Your ISP
What router are you using
can you get your router stats ?
Regards Jeff

Here is the Internet Connectivity Check from the router when the disconnections occur. But after they are all PASS.
Test PPP server session: PASS
Test Authentication: PASS
Test the assigned IP address: PASS
Ping ISP Default Gateway:FAIL
Ping Primary DNS server: FAIL

Getting loads of intrusion detection all from different IPs, 13 and counting now. I am currently blocking them with the inbound filter on the router.
Haven't had a disconnection for 1 hour and 12 minutes now though.

Hi ACWest & welcome,
1. You are obviously quite close to your exchange with very healthy statistics when your service is working properly. Can you please tell us your exchange name which you can find out from here:-
http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/adslchecker.php
2. It looks as if your intruder comes from Brazil but in itself is not usually a significant problem. Many routers are constantly being probed.
