Title: How to access a DG834 connected as a switch?
Post by: canon on February 14, 2011, 09:21:02 AM
I want to access the management interface of a Netgear DG834 that is connected as a switch to a Thompson TG585v8 (Plusnet box).
The reason for doing this is that I'm due to be transferred to Be next week but there is a possibility that the Be Box will arrive late the same day or even the next day and I want to pre-configure the Netgear DG834 for Be as a standby.
If I use the usual address of 192.168.0.1 fro the Netgear, I get page not found.
Can anyone tell me if and how I can do this?
Thanks,
Terry

Does the TG585 web interface provide a list of connected devices? If so, the DG834 should be listed and you'll see its IP address.

Unfortunately it does not.  :(
The Plusnet version seems to be restricted in what can be accessed.

OK. Sorted.  :)
With the TG585 connected and designated the "default gateway" it was not possible to connect. I disconnected a separate laptop from the network and then connected the DG834 directly to the laptop and was able to access it in the normal address.
I assume it is possible to change the "default gateway" but I'm not that good on network stuff.  ???
