Title: Outlook Express Password Problem
Post by: Peter on February 07, 2011, 02:18:37 PM
Sometime last week My wife opened OE to check her emails, but OE asked for her password but would not accecept the correct password.

I then tried to to change her password but again that was not accepted, after repeated attempts by me all managed was to also loose acccess to her BTYahoo mail account.

At this stage I phoned BT Technical Help, they managed to restore the webmail for her but the problem with OE could not be solved, the guy from BT Tech help said he would phone back later that day at 14.00 hrs Friday, I agreed and pointed out were were goin out in the evening so be sure to make it early.  He phoned back at 18.45 Friday evening as were were preparing to go out, he then said he would call me at 10.00 hrs Saturday, fine.
I'm still waiting for that call, so BT have let me down on this one.

My Outlook Express is working fine, as is the BT Hub so why can she not open OE on her laptop?

My operating system is XP with SP3.
Can I reload or repair OE from the Windows XP disc?

Any help would be appreciated, both by me and my wife.

Try making a new fresh account but still keep the old one.

First thing that came to my mind was a virus.

The laptop is scanned every day, but to be on the safe side I did a thorough san today, while waiting for it I thought I'd try a system restore to the last known date she received emails from it, and sure enough it worked! :)
Now why didn't I think of that last week! :( :-[

Anyway, job done and a lesson learned I hope, thanks all.

Now export the account to save for later then you know the details would be correct after a restore.

From Outlook:

Tools/Accounts/Mail tab/Export

I'm not too sure what is meant by this, can you explain please?

While on the subject we had the same problem again today on my wife's laptop, a system restore on the laptop cured it again.

Thinking back to what may have caused the problem I remembered I'd run CCleaner, so could this be the reason?
Also I'm having to enter my user name and password on every site I use.

Could this be my problem?  If so how do I go about avoiding this please?

Regards,

Peter

Yes, move the cookies for the sites you want to save details to the safe zone in CCleaner.

As for the export all that does is, yes you got it export the settings to another drive or where ever you put it other than "C" drive. Then later if you want that account back you import it from the saved possition.
