Title: Read Receipts
Post by: Peter on January 13, 2011, 02:45:37 PM
I have chosen to ask for a Read Receipt whenever I send emails, however not everyone receives the Receipt request, could this be because they have set never to send receipts?

Although it is not a big problem it is helpful to know my mail is being received, especially at the moment when some recipients are not getting ev ery email I send, and I have also been missing mail sent to me.

Had the BT techie chap check my system today and all is ok there.

Regards,

Peter

Happy New Year to you, Peter.  :)

Is you mail client Outlook Express ?

I don't know if this applies to you, but I have a feeling that with OE, if you have one address iin the "To" box and others in the "cc" or "bcc" fields....only the primary addressee will get the receipt request

The recipients can set their mail client to ignore a receipt request, but that should not prevent the request from getting through to them.

I'm off to check out my idea.....saw it posted somewhere if only I can find it again   :D

Thanks for that Tuftedduck, I think I can understand that, but I believe it is happening with individual mails as well, and yes I use OE.

In that case, Peter, I am at a loss as to why this is happening.  :(

Will investigate and return.  :)

The chances are more than likely that the people not receiving your mail is because it's actually being filtered out by a spam filter, "somewhere along the line"

In my case to check any of my email addresses I would need to check the security settings in all of:-

a. Gmail inbox or and (one other account)
b. Mailwasher Pro
c. Outlook Express

What I'm trying to get at is that it need not necessarily just be your main OE client but any other client that the mail passes through.
99.9% of the time it is down to "Operator Error" not a software problem.

OF males a very good point.

Spam filters may be the cause, or even malware filters as found in anti-virus programs.

I wonder if there is a pattern.........for instance, do mails to POP3 addresses work while those to IMAP (web mail addresses) fail..or vice versa. Some filters on webmail hosts such as Yahoo and Hotmail can be quite aggressive.

Your mail is getting through Unless you get a 'Unable to deliver' message from your ISP, but likewise it then could be filtered out as stated above.

I use 'Thunderbird' free mail browser www.monzilla.com  It's more secure.

I never enable 'Send receipt' because it was linked with a security scare some time ago.

Also I would Never let anyone else on my computer ( it's one of the first things I disable)  re "Had the BT techie chap check my system today and all is ok there."
