I updated to Opera 11 but immediately found I had problems.  The second tab (the Welcome to Opera tab) seems to hang when loading and then will not close.  It was using over 50% of my CPU but achieving nothing.  I see from the Opera forums that others are having the same problem but no solutions have been put forward yet.  When I closed the browser (using the Windows "Program is not repsonding - End Now" option) I could not open it again as a popup kept saying it was already open.  I have resolved the problem using Revo Uninstall for the time being and reverted to Firefox!

I've had no such problem with the Linux version.

Seems ok for me Jazz.

I am using Vista.I always find looking in the task manager Opera doesn't use as much cpu as Firefox does.

@ jazz..........I had that problem when Opera first opened after installation. I shut it down in taskmanager, then reopened and have opened and closed it several times since then and the problem has not re-occurred.

@ unkyUb.......Opera will manage RAM dynamically......it will use what is available at any given time for any given site. It is very good at handing back RAM when not required.

My only gripe in this version is a minor one.......the security "Web" button on the left of the address bar now stops site favicons being displayed. Not a major issue...but I rather liked the favicons.

Thanks for that TD.  I quite like Opera for occasional use so when I have some time I'll download another copy and try again :)

I've just tried a new download and as soon as it started to open shut the tab for "Welcome to Opera".  It works fine now.  What a shame that the "Welcome" page that would tell new users all about Opera is the one that hangs!  I use Windows XP (service pack 3) and those on the Opera forums reporting problems all seem to be on XP - Vista users don't seem to have the same problem.

Another interesting point is that, although I removed Opera with Revo Uninstaller yesterday, and deleted all the "extra bits" that Revo found, nevertheless when I downloaded a "clean" copy of Opera today it still had all my bookmarks and other information intact so there must have been a little something somewhere on my system that Revo Uninstaller had not found.   :-\
