Title: Another Ofcom report
Post by: waltergmw on December 02, 2010, 10:59:29 AM
Gentlefolk,

Perhaps one day somebody might just wake up to the fact that very little has been done to provide future-proofed broadband and mobile communications.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-11889302

I do wish Ofcom and all journalists would actually understand what they are being told. It is quite fatuous to confuse:-

"BT plans to have fibre networks deployed to 66% of homes by 2015, while Virgin's cable service will offer 100Mbps speeds to 50% of UK homes by 2012."

when these technologies are all FTTCabinet rather than FTTPremises which is what is urgently required. I believe that FTTP is only being deployed to a few tiny pilot areas.

BT have actually announced that they even have no intention of upgrading FTTC in the future and yet they still persist with No Universal Service Obligation on any twisted pair.

Kind regards,
Walter
