Title: ISP Mergers and Buyouts

This year has seem some interesting developments within the ISP industry.

One of the biggest announcements was TalkTalks Offer of "Free Broadband" (http://news.independent.co.uk/business/news/article359472.ece) (Read the T+Cs carefully).
This move is expected to loose TT somewhere in the region of ?50m.

More and more ISPs are starting to struggle and the big players are taking over.  The past year has seen many mergers and buyouts.

NTL & Telewest + Virgin ISP + Virgin Mobile
Orange +  Wanadoo
Pipex + F2S + Nildram + Homecall + 123-reg
Plusnet + Metronet (also own Force9 + Free-OnLine)
Cable and wireless + Bulldog
Carphone Warehouse > TT
Sky = Easynet + UKOnline
Telefonica O2 + Be* and dixons group
Kingston Communications + Eclipse

A few ISPs have also had financial difficulties and have ceased trading.
