Title: AOL - ISP buy out?
Post by: kitz on July 12, 2006, 09:49:26 AM
Rumours are that AOL who have around 1.2 million broadband users, could be pulling out of ISP services and concentrating on portal services.

It was only six months ago that Time Warner (who own AOL UK) stated that they were to invest ?120 million on LLU and install their own equipment in local exchanges. [ref] (http://www.lightreading.com/document.asp?doc_id=87264).

Originally is was reported that they were looking at off loading their French and German markets, but the latest is that the UK group could also be up for sale if the right buyer can be found.
BSkyB and BT are 2 companies that have been named as being interested. [Source] (http://www.lightreading.com/document.asp?doc_id=96267)

Zdnet (http://news.zdnet.co.uk/communications/0,39020336,39274583,00.htm) however are reporting that Vodafone or O2 are also likely candidates.
