Hi All
I've just reformatted hdd and reinstalled XP am wondering is there a correct sequence to install MS security updates. When I run a manual update scan I get two options install SP3 or brows and install other important updates, so should I install SP3 first and then install the other important updates or install the important updates first then install SP3 :-\
Cheers

I would install SP3 first (as it already contains security updates) and then any other update that you feel is required.

Thanks exo, so when SP3's been installed is there actually any need to install any of the other updates if SP3 includes all of the security updates??

Yes. SP3 includes (fairly obviously) only all updates up to the date it was released, which was long ago.
There have been loads since.

Yes you need to go back after re-booting your PC and you will then find in the region of 50+ updates for SP3.
SP3 has not actually been updated since it was created (unfortunately) hence the further security and other updates.

Ahh I see, so after installing SP3 I'll need to install all the other important/critical updates.
Thanks for the advice - much appreciated :)

After SP3 you'll get a whole new list so just run Windows Update again.
Depending what's on your PC it may take 2 or 3 iterations to get totally up to date as some updates trigger others on the next cycle.

Thanks HP - will do :) :)
Edit 7/3/2010 SP3 + critical updates now installed and running sweet - Thanks all for the help/advice.
