Title: MAC code Tiscali
Post by: grumpy old man on January 10, 2010, 08:52:59 PM
I have a friend who wishes to move from Tiscali to the Post Office but is having difficulties in obtaining her MAC code.

Any advice on the best way to get this?

Thanks

I would suggest by asking. Should be able to get it straight away.

~ How do I migrate?

To migrate to another ISP you need to request a MAC key from your existing Internet Service Provider.
According to OFCOM rules, your ISP must pass this on to you within 5 working days.

You then simply need to provide your new ISP with your MAC key, when you sign up with them and select which date you wish to migrate on.

When contacting your existing ISP its important that you do not mention the word "cancel" as canceling means removing the adsl service from your line, rather than transferring between ISPs

Thank you for your responses.  My friend has tried to get in touch with Tiscali but with little success.

I will pass on information and suggest she tries again.

Tiscali contact details:

Calls are charged at local rate†. Lines are open Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm on Saturday and 9am to 5pm on Sunday. Opening hours are exclusive of bank holidays

Hi, I work for Tiscali's parent company, TalkTalk. The easiest way to acquire a MAC from Tiscali would be to contact our cancellation department who will then email you the MAC. Be advised though that if you are on an LLU package (where we own the cabinet in the telephone exchange) then a MAC doesn't exist and you'll need to contact BT or the telephone provider of your choice to port over your telephone number.
