Title: Strange Profile - Any Ideas ??
Post by: GunJack on December 24, 2009, 11:34:20 PM
Guys, any info/insight on this one...

whilst tiscali-contracted engineer was investigating my faulty line back in Oct/Nov, he couldn't get his 585v7 to sync (even though my D-Link synced fine :)) and he spent some time on the phone to bb support, who ended up changing my line profile. I've now ended up with this:-

                                 Down  Up
Rate (Kbps):              5248  800
SNR Margin (dB):          7.0  13.0
Attenuation (dB):       48.0  23.0
Output Power (dBm): 12.6  19.8

now, I've not been moved onto ADSL2+ (tiscali apparently don't offer it, until moved onto TT DSLAM/MSAN), had no d/s attenuation change, but thought that max was always capped at 448k upstream ???? Or is it purely that with reducing the u/s snrm they've effectively uncapped it ?? Below is a typical speedtest result:-

Or am I just lucky and shouldn't ask too many questions  ;)

The 448k upstream was a limitation of maxdsl for home users.
Now that you are on a TT msan, these are adsl2+ compatible, therefore the the higher upstream (and downstream if you live close enough to the exchange)
TT will now be controlling your profiles, and theres no IPprofiling like on the BTw based systems.

Can you clarify whether you have been moved on to the TT equipment or are you still on the BT DSLAM?

You can go up to 832kbps upload (not sure that's the exact limit) on BT DSLAM's, usually at a premium price and not all ISP's offer it.

Sorry I misread the Question about TT

Maxdsl is 448 upstream for home users and 832 for Office (Max Premium)
Theres more spare upstream SNRM - therefore if by any chance the line had been put on Max Premium then I see no reason why it wouldnt sync at the standard 832.

The 800 is a funny figure, but it is one that tiscali openly tout for their llu services ...
and bearing in mind Ive never heard of Tiscali even offering Max premium for non business accounts, then imho that line is far more likely to have been LLU'd.

Thanks for the replies so far, but just to clarify....

1. I'm on Tiscali LLU, have been for a good 15 months at this address (ever since the initial BT line contract ended...I'm in a new build so had to have BT line for first 12 months).

2. No, I've NOT been moved over to TT DSLAM yet, should be happening later this year according to Tiscali/TT.

3. I'm NOT on ADSL2+.

4. "the 800 is a funny figure" - DMT estimates line is capable of 984kb/sec upstream if that's any help ???

And this ^^^^^^ is why I asked for any advice, it didn't seem to stack up.
