Title: Device drivers
Post by: nomeames on December 21, 2009, 07:23:43 PM
Can anyone suggest a software that can scan the computer for all device drivers and tell me which one are out of date and needs updating. If such a "scan and compare' feature is not available, are there any software that just scans and lists out the device driver details? (without suggest what needs updating). This saves me time going to device manager and opening each component to see the driver details. Thanks in advance.

DoubleDriver from http://www.boozet.org/product.htm will do a list of device drivers and give you quite a lot of information. It won't tell you which needs updating, but it's very good at what it does.

Driver Detective is quite good.

Alternative,  Driver Robot...........not used it myself.

Both the above may be time trialed or have restricted functionality unless purchased.

Bear in mind, it should not be necessary to check and install drivers on a regular basis.
New drivers are often released to overcome some problem that may not be relevant to your setup.
Drivers are normally downloaded from the hardware manufacturers website.
I would not rely on Windows updating your drivers.

DriverMax is another such program.

However.....
Do not update too many programs without checking the update is both readable and working.

I have used it, and have to admit went like a bull in a china shop, only to find that some of the automatic updates were in a foreign language so I therefore could not configure them properly.
