Title: Request to copy frogstats?
Post by: adslgeek on December 11, 2009, 08:40:51 AM
Hey Merry Xmas Kitz!

No worries either way, but just wondering if you would object if I reprinted parts of the Frogstats section as part of my  troubleshooter page?

I would of course have links back, and give credit as to the source.

If not that is cool, and certainly as I get some done up myself, I will send through what I have done..

Cheers,
ADSLgeek.

Hi

Thanks for your enquiry, I will contact you personally about this.   Please bear with me a little while as I have a large outstanding amount of email and site admin to deal with right now.
I will however point out that the site has a copyright notification and intellectual property rights statement which can be viewed here (http://www.kitz.co.uk/sites/about.htm#copyright).

Whilst some of the information on the page you enquire about has come from 3rd parties - those 3rd parties are acknowledged where appropriate, and Im sure you will appreciate that collation and update of that page does take some time and information has been accumulated over many years.

Unfortunately some sites in the past have abused permission as time goes on and things tend to get 'forgotten' as time goes by.   Frogstats is a major part of the site and Im sure you will appreciate that its unfair for others to be able to proclaim it as their own work.   This site will be taking a much tougher stance in the future on copyright and permission.

I appreciate that this is not what you attempt to do..  and thank you for approaching us, but Im sure you will appreciate also that I do have this sites interests to protect too.

Hey that sounds completely fair to me, so what I will do is if it is cool, I will just point the customers that have a modem that you have instructions for to your frogstats page.

Is there an easy way to send directly to their modem? (I was hoping to link to the section of the page directly from the modem page on my site if that is possible? / you are OK with that?) I had a look at the HTML and it looks like you have some funny javascript there, so wasn't sure if that was your preferred way to link to that section?

In addition if there are any other modems which people on my site needed to get, then I have a thread which I will update with instructions.

I have only had 2 people ask for modems so far, which you don't yet have, but I will continue to grow it over time, so you are welcome to grab whatever instructions I put up there - that way your site becomes the master record.  :)

Thanks.... I have no objection to that, as long as everything complies with the stuff laid out under the copyright section (http://www.kitz.co.uk/sites/about.htm#copyright)  :)

>> it looks like you have some funny javascript there,

Its dynamically generated from a database using php and javascript, which is why it perhaps looks weird.

Yes - each router has a html anchor which can be obtained from the drop down list.

So for eg if you select the Netgear DG834 it will produce and open up the link
