My adsl modem (DG834GT) is currently plugged into a microfilter and then into a bt wired in extension.
This BT extension socket does not have a phone attached to it just the router. I am following up on an issue and as a test wanted to try reducing the number of microfilters that I am currently using (4 in all).
I was looking to replace the microfilter which the modem is connected into with a BT plug to RJ11 adapter. So the modem lead goes into this new adapter and into BT socket.

1. Any reason why this should be problematic (have C&W LLU ADSL2+)
2. I have seem some adapter that say they are wired straight or crossover. I presume in this case I would need a straight variety.
3. I take it these adapters are all much of muchness or do I have to make sure that for example they are fully wired.
I was just going to purchase this one from fleebay, if it seems ok.

It will probably be OK. What some people have done is to use a dial-up modem lead to connect the BT socket directly to the router, but these didn't all have the same connections, so most worked but some didn't. The product which you're looking at will probably have the right connections, but I can't be certain. If it has the wrong connections it won't work, but it won't do any damage.

Many thanks roseway. I was apprehensive that it might create some kind of short and lead to more problems.

I did actually try with a cable which I removed from a telephone but that did not work.
I will give the straight version a shot, at least it won't break the bank.

You have to check which of the RJ11 connectors are actually used by the lead.
At the BT plug end the 2 and 5 contacts are the significant ones, i.e. one out from the central pair.
At the router end it's usually the inner pair that are used, whereas phones will often mirror the BT plug and use the next pair out.
Modems are commonly built to US-type designs using the inner pair on RJ11.
As a result modem leads are generally NOT swappable with UK phone leads.

I wonder if a standard RJ11 each-end ADSL Modem cable would work with the BT to RJ 11 adapter that you illustrated?

alternately you can get an extention face plate with an rj11 socket. just connect idc's 2&5 at the back

Many thanks for the clarity. I will have a look and see if I have one of those about. In any case when the adapter arrives, I will also be able to double check that the pins are in the right place. Reason I wanted to use an adapter is so that I can continue to use my ADSLNation pro RJ11 cable.

I did see those on the Solwise page and it does look like a more elegant solution but (there is always one of those), the BT extension socket that the router is plugged into is the surface mounted variety (on the skirting board) and 68mm to boot.

By way of an update, the RJ11 to BT socket adapter arrived today but did not work ie nothing happened, router could/did not pick up the adsl signal or sync

Are you able to check which contacts are connected to what (refer to my earlier post) as if it's for phones it's probably the wrong pair on the RJ11 side, i.e. it's "straight through".
