Hi all.
I have a Logitech cordless mouse and keyboard combo. MX 3000 Laser.
Last night the mouse pointer wouldn't respond to the direction in which I was moving the mouse,all the other functions worked fine and the keyboard was ok.
I replaced the batteries but still the same.So I had to plug in a spare usb mouse I had to be able to restart the computer.
After the restart still the same.
I wasn't very impressed with the cheap usb mouse so I shut down last night thinking I would have to get a new on.
Booted up this morning and its working fine ?
Any ideas what was causing the problem?
As I have a keyboard/mouse combo with one of those usb receivers,would I have to replace the who;e set or is it possible to just buy a new mouse.(if the problem occurs again)
The mouse has been brilliant and I have got use to having one without any wires.

The movement detection relies on a little red light on the underside of the mouse. Perhaps there was some problem with this, or even some fluff obscuring the detector? The other thing which occurs is that cordless mice usually go into a battery-saving mode when they're not used for a period, so maybe your mouse got stuck in this mode and didn't recover for some reason.
This is all just waffle, because I don't really know. :)

Further to those suggestions.
I don't think you need a new mouse.
I read some time ago ( am looking for the article again ) of some bugs using a Logitech wireless mouse on a Vista with SP2 machine, where the OS occasionally ate the mouse drivers...only to rebuild them on next reboot.
Apparently a spasmodic event without any pattern or known reason, but the fact that you are up and running again now may indicate that that is what has happened.
Will try and find the article and post it here. :)

Thats interesting TD about Logitech wireless mice and Vista with SP2(which I have)
Although I did a shutdown and restart last night and the problem was the same,but this morning fine.

I have a Logitech cordless mouse too and it went on the blink a few weeks ago for no apparent reason, I just gave it a quick clonk on the mouse mat and voila ! no problems since :'(

In technical circles, that is known as "fine adjustment". You are obviously a highly skilled IT specialist and (I am sure) charge highly for those skills! :lol:

Still footling, tootling and rootling for this here article.....it was in the Microsoft knowledge base pages and you know what it is like trying to find something in there.
