Title: MSN Messenger Pop up
Post by: Peter on October 19, 2009, 05:39:15 PM
I'm finding it increasingly irratating that every time I start the pc MSN Messenger opens, I uninstalled it from Add Or Remove programmes but it has come back again! >:(

I'm using Windows live hotmail for some of my emails and now wonder if it isn'r being reinstalled every time I access this hotmail account?

I never use messenger so I'd like to remove it or permenantly disable it, can anyone explain how please?

The normal way is as follows.

Click your start button / Run / type in the following line:

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\inf\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

Press OK and restart your computer.

The command must be exactly as above...it is case sensitive and all punctuation, including spaces, are needed..........maybe best to copy and paste from here.  :)

Hello, Peter.  :)

I don't understand that.....something odd  there.

Here is where the removal instruction came from.....http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=288

Did you try the above, if so what happened ?

You don't mention what version of messenger it is, but if you go to the messenger menu and select Tools > Options and then either the General tab or the Sign In tab you'll find options there to disable it from launching when windows starts up.
