Hi all,
I have always visited this site http://www.trustedreviews.com/index.aspx to get unbiased reviews on most consumer products.
On clicking on to the site this morning all I find is what looks like a domain site?
This part of what the site should be about.
http://shopping.trustedreviews.com/
-
It's working for me ok, unkyUb...using Opera browser...both links fine.
-
I have just tried in IE7 and the first link is still the same, but the bottom link is ok?
Just to add,I have always had the site bookmarked in both FF and IE7.
-
Yes, bottom link ok and top link opens fine as per attached screeny.
Funny thing....when I first read your original post, the bottom link was highlighted in blue to indicate a link, but the top one was plain black type. It would not work as a link, so I copied and pasted into the browser and it opened ok......but now it is showing in you post as a blue linky...odd.

Hi TD, I first typed in the first link and it highlighted blue, but when i pasted the second link the first link wasn't highlighted. So I then copied it and pasted.
How do I go about posting a screenshot of the site I am seeing?
-
Aha..that explains the "wrong" linky colour.
Just open the web page and then hit the Print Scrn key which will put an image of that page into/onto the Clipboard, then use your image editor (is there one built into Vista...like Paint ) to copy back from the clipboard to make an image.....then the usual route via Photobucket or whereever.

Did it via photobucket :-X
Just to add,I have installed updated versions of Adobe flashplayer (10), Adobe reader version 9.1.3,and Java update version 6_15 today.
This is the only site in all my dozens of bookmarked ones that isn't displaying.....?
-
Hmm odd one.
See if this works:-
http://www.trustedreviews.com/software/news/2009/08/05/Exclusive--Windows-7-UK---Europe-Upgrade-RRPs/p1
I find it to be working fine.
Try clearing the cache in Firefox.
Tools > Clear Browsing History, if using 3.5, select "Everything" or if 3.0.11 tick Cache and History.
-
Hi
I get 2 different pages ,but seem ok . please see attachment
Regards Jeff

Cleared the cache Jamie,no difference
Jeff, the second picture/link is fine for me ,but he first one is still bringing up my above posted link.
As I am getting the same in IE7,could something 'dodgy' been downloaded onto my computer,
saying that, why that site and why does the 'shopping' part work............
As I have stated,no other known problems with any other site.
-
Have you checked in your firewall to see if that site is blocked, ditto in the Internet Options>Security settings in IE
-
I can't really offer any help, except to say that both links work fine here too.
-
Hmm, looking at their Whois data:-
http://whois.domaintools.com/trustedreviews.com
It seems Unc may have seen the domain page as they renewed their domain today??
Did you try the link I posted Unc to see if that worked?

Yes Jamie I did,its still the same..

Hmm an odd one.
Have you tried using a different browser?

Can't see anything in my firewall.
I did notice that a lot of programmes are granted 'full access'yey some are only granted 'outbound -only access'
Some of the Java programmes are granted full access and some are granted only outbound.I wonder if I should grant all the Java progrmmes full access.
These are the ones in question...
JAVA (tm) platform SE Binary
and
JAVA (tm) update checker.......

Yes....IE7,still the same.
-
Now a different screen ?

If the domain has only just been renewed, I wonder if your ISP's DNS service has been slow to update. What IP address do you get if you type
ping www.trustedreviews.com
I get 135.196.7.59
-
UnkyUb, could you repost the screeny of the page ypu get, but this time expand it to show the address bar in your browser....and thus show the URL that you have arrived on......if different to your original linky, it may be a malware redirect.

There's certainly something odd about that. The IP address I got is the correct one. Try entering the address I got in your browser. I'm afraid I've got to go out now.
-
Well blow me down.........Its back to normal now............ :shrug2:
(https://forum.kitz.co.uk/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi246.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fgg87%2FUncleUB%2FCapture4.jpg&hash=957c8e8f4bfc8ce5858768673de87fbabfe0a986)
As you can see,the address is the same as in the other screen capture..........
-
Well. that's been an odd one.......and the IP address you got when you pinged belongs to a www.searchacross.com which appears to be be a mortgage/finance brokerage.
Hopefully whatever was ailing has been sorted....odd.. :-\
-
I hope so TD :fingers: ,and thanks to everyone for all your input. :clap2:
Edit, I have just pinged www.trustedreviews.com and it was as Eric had posted....135.196.7.59.
The only thing is ,it says 'request timed out' x 4.
Packets sent: =4
Received =0
Lost =4 100%
I have tried other sites...bbc.co.uk and kitz.co.uk and it pings them fine..............
-
As Eric said most likely DNS related.
Do you use your ISP DNS servers or OpenDNS?

My ISP (BT) ones

That's not of any particular consequence. It probably just means that the site doesn't respond to ping requests. The important thing is that the IP address is correct, which it wasn't before.
It might be worth thinking about using an alternative DNS service. I'm not personally keen on OpenDNS, because they do some rather naughty things, like redirecting searches to their own search site. (If you use OpenDNS, try typing 'google' into the main address bar of the browser.) I use DNS Advantage (http://www.dnsadvantage.com/) which seems to be free of such things.
-
Thanks Eric,
Tbh I have never had any DNS problems before,so I will just continue as I am.If I decide to move to O2 at the end of September then it is something I might need to consider. :)
Will bookmark your link for future reference. ;)
-
I notice from your image posted that the top right says 'network solutions".
NS appear to be doing the hosting for trustedreviews.. and in view that they renewed their domain today.. its highly likely that its a DNS related issue.
DNS propogation can take a while (several hours) and most ISPs have DNS caching servers.
If a domain (website) changes servers it can take a while for all the various ISPs around the world to catch up with the new correct server.
I know when Ive changed servers in the past it can sometimes take up to 12 hours for everyone's DNS to catch up.
-
Thanks Kitz, you are very observant and knowledgeable.Eric did mention about the DNS servers,so fullmarks to him as well.
I shall now log this info into the old memory banks for when/if it happens again. :)

I disagree there Eric as you can disable the ads coming up so I get "Page Cannot be Displayed" not a million Yahoo ads provided by OpenDNS.
Although I do agree with Eric in respect that perhaps you may see improvements if you switched DNS provider.
After getting rid of Tiscali DNS I have noticed better ping and responsiveness online.
-
>> are very observant and knowledgeable
lol not really - iirc it was jid who noticed the domain renewal date so credit to him for that.
Eric also mentioned DNS.. so I was just adding my 2p
-
Five people chipped in with suggestions, so that adds up to 10p in total. ;D

Didn't mean to miss anyone out so you all can have an extra 2p(sod the expense)
Only 1p for Jamie ( he would only fritter it on riotous living )
