Is this site working fine for you.

http://www.dslzoneuk.net/

All I get is this line of some sort of code?

Quote
Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Too many connections in /home/dslzone/public_html/inc_detectisp.php on line 6
cannot connect

I'm getting the same error code as you. unkyUb................."too many connections" would seem to imply server overload.  :(

Thanks TD,

Could it be a massive spam attack...That site does get bombarded with spam in the early hours..mainly Russian.

They need some Kitz style super-defences..... :police:

It does seem to be a regulance situation on that site....here is a discussion about the same thing happening less than a month ago.  :(....................http://forums.thinkbroadband.com/general/3723765-trouble-connecting-to-dslzoneuk.html

Yes it did happen a month ago TD.Tbh I don't know whats happening with that site,it seems to be going down the pan.Its ISP' ratings section is a joke. You get people who just vote en masse to inflate an ISP (which happened some time ago with Talktalk) And now we have gone the other way with voting O2 very low.I think its users who are on the O2 Access package(IP stream). Most O2 LLU users(including myself) are very happy with O2.

>> They need some Kitz style super-defences

I'm not shouting out loud or saying too much in public for obvious reasons, but the spam element has caused a few problems here too. It was only a couple of weeks ago that we too were experiencing a frenzied spam bot attack that was coming it at the rate of thousands per day.

I put something different in place, and I do have various levels of defence which keeps it at bay, but it is a constant battle.  As I think TD has only recently become very aware of is what does get through is negligible to what is attempted.  It is a constant war and something that needs to be kept on top of. :/

The mysql connect error implies the server coming under load and a measure put in place to stop bot attempts bringing the server to its knees... but in the meantime it also stops valid users being able to access too.

Again I dont want to say too much as it could just be a co-incidence and probably isnt related, but this weekend we've been busy behind the scenes too.
Yesterday the whole site moved over to a shiny brand new 4 x quad core i7 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Core_i7) server.  I didnt have time to post about it or give any warnings as it was done in a bit of a rush in order to avoid a problem becoming more serious... but huge thanks to my hosts for helping make it seamless as far as the general public are concerned. The upshoot is we are now on what is probably one of the fastest servers available.

In this game you have to have your eye on the ball all the time and can never afford to become complacent.

As regards to the content on dslzone, I know of at least 2 ISPs that have directly told me that they cant get the site to update their product content. Zen isnt one of them, but I shoud imagine they are also in the same situation.

I know one ISP has been attempting for a few years and have now given up as the prices and products are very wrong and the products listed havent been available for over 3 years.
AFAIK the only product listings for ISPs that arent several years out of date is the Enta related ones.

I dont think anything is being updated on the main site... the adsl checker has been broken for about 2 years and gives out very wrong information.

For instance this is the result for my line

Quote

ADSL is available
Your line is capable of 2.0 Mbps
SDSL is available
is SDSL enabled
Your line is capable of 0 Mbps
SDSL is available on your line.

Well I think Im capable of a tad more than 2Mbps
and SDSL isnt even available at this exchange.

Virgin Media is not available
Be LLU is not available
UK Online is not available
Pipex LLU is not available
Sky LLU is not available
Tiscali LLU is not available
TalkTalk LLU is not available
Orange LLU is not available
Zen LLU is not available

Totally Wrong.
Ive been on Be LLU for about 20 months
and I know for a fact that all of those aside from Zen & VM are available to me.  In fact Ive even physically seen all the others DSLAMs.

The site is very much out of date and there are a lot of complaints about how you can rate your ISP.Apparantly everytime you reboot your router you can then rate again.

No system is ever going to be totally foolproof for being able to rate again.

I think with dslzones though there is another flaw, that you could also rate against an ISP youve never been with or had any experience of.

edit... it looks like that may have been plugged pretty damn recently.
If I attempt now..  it offers me the choice of Be, o2 or adsl24

ditto.

And it tells me that I have already rated in the last 30 days.

>>>As I think TD has only recently become very aware of is what does get through is negligible to what is attempted<<<

So very true...I was staggered and shocked to see the amount and the persistancy of these spambot attacks........It certainly opened my eyes to some unsavoury truths.

We really should be so grateful to Kitz for keeping the Forums as clean as they are. :)

I wonder how much overall net bandwith is taken up by these attacks.....the majority, I would think.  :(
